This is a a picture of our main vegetable garden garden which includes bell peppers(red yellow green orange purple),broccoli, beets, kohlrabi, brussel sprouts, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, jalapeno peppers, banana peppers, purple cabbage, red cabbage, zucchini, and every variety and color of tomato you can think of mainly for canning salsa and pasta sauce. We also have a potato and gourd garden that i made out of straw bales and is taking off nicely. I had to keep the potatoes away from the tomatoes to prevent blight we are also in the middle of making a raised carrot bed for next year as we have very heavy clay soil that needs to be heavily amended for any well drained crops or and root crops. I have also started several centenial hop vines pictured below.
Here is my raised bed made out of straw bales we have two kinds of potatoes and gourds growing very well together in a considerably small space. The gourds seem to take it over right about the time i can pull my potatoes. My potatoes of choice are the purple fingerling and the small red variety they both seem to have a wonderful flavor and they cook very nice as well. It took me a while to do potatoes due to their cheap price at the store but now i'm happy i did it. They are so easy and you get so many its almost overwhelming.
Above is our salsa from last year it has all garden ingredients except for the onion that i have not had the greatest of luck with. We also canned tomato sauce that is a base that can be seasoned to make salsa, pasta sauce,of a plethora of other tomato based things. Our pasta sauce up to this point we have froze but this year i think we will can with all the broiler chickens in the freezer i am not sure we will have room in the freezers.
Above pictured is a close up of part of my strawberry patch i have ten plants at the moment but they multiply like rabbits. I am going to pull out my pole bean tepee that is in the same garden next to it and plant another ten next year. My kids and i love to go out after dinner and pick our fresh strawberries there is nothing better. We also have a few raspberry bushes blackberry bushes and mulberry trees that we occasionally snack on. The strawberries are another plant that is so easy it would be crazy not to do them if you have a spot they are extremely low maintenance and the ever-berrying variety gives you fresh fruit all summer long
